Directory of Albuquerque
                                A resource for our community

NPD includes contact information for more than 1100 organizations, and is divided into four sections:

1.            1. An alphabetical listing of all organizations including the vendors, foundations,
consultants and resources - includes address, phone, email and website

2. Categorization of the organization using the national taxonomy of exempt entities -
again listing address, phone, email and website

3.

3. Foundations serving New Mexico, with address, phone, email and website

4. Consultants, Vendors, Resources serving non-profits including address, phone, email and
       website

The directory for Albuquerque will be updated for 2010

Why a printed directory?

A printed directory allows the user to look for specific organizations or research the type of assistance available.  The best reason for a hard copy is the user can discover easily all of the options available to them.  It is envisioned that the directory will be used by case workers, emergency room personnel, and small agencies, and many others; and that in many instances a computer is not always handy when information is most needed.

Why Albuquerque needs the NPD.

Albuquerque has one of the highest ratios of non-profit organizations per-capita in the U.S.

which means

As a community, we are committed to help those in need.

In our zeal to help, our community has created more than 1100 non-profit organizations to deal with almost any need imaginable.  Many organizations have duplicated efforts - in some cases parceling out a specific component of the need to better serve the population.  This is not unheard of and every helping hand is needed.

During prosperous times this abundance of support is not noticed nor considered a problem.

During leaner times the duplication of services places a strain on the community. Most organizations are competing for funding, volunteers, employees and media attention.

Typically the most well known and well funded organizations receive the lions share of volunteers, funding and media attention.  Conversely, because they are so well known, resources of these organizations are constantly overtaxed.

What are other ramifications of a vast and varied network of helpers?

·             Synergistic alliances go undiscovered.

·             Resources available to non-profits are not easily accessible.

·             Funders do not know of all the options available to them - it has been said that money
goes unclaimed because no one knows it is available.

·             It is difficult for the public to find the appropriate organization to contact for the type of
            assistance needed.
